Subjects that can be taught in an MBA

Being from Fauj i had the good luck to do a short term course from XLRI. it was a good place, it also reinforced an important fact. The better the institute the more freedom one gets. And man they get in all shapes and sizes and states. They also end up having the best fest's that India can boast of.


But there is one wee thing that troubles me, just because a person can do analytical or qualitative etc good makes him do a job better. I have some courses that are taught in one of the most premier institutes of India which make as much sense as Swami Bagnivesh trying to


A. Entrepreneurship: You cannot teach a dude to be a business man at heart. You just have to jump. Before you say something you can't learn firing/swimming from a book, until you jump or fire  it ain't gonna make any difference. And i am pretty sure that starting a business is tougher than the both coz i have tried both.


B. strategic analysis of Information Technology: If you learn to write this sentence without making any mistake, trust me you have already learnt half about it already. And the people who teach this, i am pretty sure wouldn't know jack shit about what they are saying. If they knew, wouldn't they already be billionaires?


C. Investment Analysis: Really!!!!! this one must be one of the howlers for gods sake. Can anybody predict anything in this stochastic world.


I feel that these topics are really required, they are potent. I will try explain in relation with Fauj as to why they are very much required.


A. Humor: A most potent weapon that we really need in our corporate world. Laugh at ourselves and also with others and not at others. We are so serious that even a turtle can laugh at us.


B. How to Conduct and Finish a meeting: Man oh man this must be one of the most painful things that one must undergo in a corporate settings. I can count with just a hand, the useful meetings that i have had till now. And we need a psychologist, anthropologist, may be even an ornithologist along with a finance guy to make them understand the importance to conduct and close a meeting within half a day.Phew if we calculate the amount of resources that are spent for a meeting, it would be staggering. 


C. Talking to people from different teams: This would result in immense savings. Let me tell you how by doing this Israel would be much smaller than what it is today. During the Yom kippur war there were 2 egyptian divisions which were into the thick of battle, as luck would have it there was a lake. They didnt communicate and Israeli's infiltrated and a major catastrophe was averted. Thats the reason in Fauj we always have a sort of special mention towards the unit that is at the edge of the division. so that same way the edges in different teams need to talk first. 


these are some of the few. Not sure whether i have written a stupid piece or may be it made sense. But just felt like it.
